The Garden

As I sit back in a cosy shade,
And feel the drops of falling rain,
Thinking how the world is made
And am I an active creator or I live in vain?
A thousand thoughts cross my mind,
But what matters is how many stay!
Among them, there are some of special kind,
They come, play their role and go away!

Those are the ones which teach you the truth,
That life's a huge garden nurtured by a seasonal brook,
Which was laboured hard by our parents who sacrificed their youth,
So that it's filled with beautiful flowers for an aesthetic look!
We grew up playing on the grass without acknowledging it's beauty,
Plucked flowers, got pricked by thorns and were scolded,
And cried notes of misfortune, without understanding their duty!
Expected them to bend down with their hands folded!
And being deft gardeners, they did bow down giving us enormous joy,
But with secateurs in their pockets for silently pruning off our diseased branches,
And kept us in an illusion without showing the beauty of this decoy!
But now I see it,when I gear up to learn the arts' nuances!

Now I am asked to water the seeds which they have freshly sown,
And told that I'm a beautiful gift,to which they will always extend a helping hand,
And it's time that I start taking care of this garden as my own,
I pull up my socks, wear my boots, but only to find a rough patch of land!
I get confused and don't know from where to start and how to make the land fertile,
There's no water to irrigate as the season has changed and the brook runs dry,
I start by cleaning the fallen dead leaves and make up a huge pile,
And set them on fire, for others to heat their bodies up,as they pass by!
Some stay, sit, talk and warm their hands, and make the garden buzz like a bee-hive,
As night dawns, they mysteriously disappear leaving the place dead,
And I can't sleep!Soon it's morning,and I'm forced out of bed,
To see some dew sparkling on new-grown flowers, dancing on the wind's jive!
I get delighted that helping people yielded results in the blink of an eye,
And I sow a seed to remind me for doing the same, until I die!

The garden has started flourishing,as spring has arrived,
Little squirrels start playing and drink from the brook after they are tired,
I'm happy to see the change, from what it was and how it thrived!
But know,a huge 'plot' has to be ploughed before the garden is wired!
And as this thought prepares to bid adieu,
It tells me that this garden will be as beautiful as I choose,
And requires care and handling of the likes of a beau!
And I need to do good with selfless love,to wear my parents' shoes,
Cuz without wearing them,I'll trample down the seeds they have sown,
And leave an important part of the garden in ruins!
The thought leaves, telling me the skills I need to hone,
For helping me build a garden of my dreams!
